Eastfield Announces Dallas College Legacy Award Finalists
Dallas College Eastfield announced its finalists for the Dallas College Athletics Legacy Award.
Each recipient will earn a chance to be inducted into Dallas College Athletics Lifetime Legacy Lore. The Legacy Award honors former Dallas College student-athletes and coaches who distinguished themselves through exceptional athletic and academic performances at their respective campuses, and who have continued to excel in their professional and personal lives long after their playing days. These individuals represent the highest standards of leadership, excellence and impact – both within Dallas College and in the communities they serve.
Ryan Roberts
Ryan Roberts won a National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national championship, and was a First Team All-American at Eastfield in 2001. He batted .368 with 17 home runs and 64 runs batted in as middle infielder.
Roberts was drafted as a third baseman by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2003, and made his Big League debut in 2006. He spent nine years in Major League Baseball, playing for the Blue Jays, Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox. In 2009 with the Diamondbacks, he hit .279 with seven home runs, 17 doubles, two triples, 25 RBI, 41 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 110 games. He had a career average of .243 with 46 homers, 71 doubles, four triples, 169 RBI, 205 runs and 35 stolen bases in 1,500 at-bats.
Cordell Ray
Cordell Ray won an NJCAA Division III national championship with the men's basketball team at Eastfield in 1996-97. A 6-foot-9 sophomore, Ray was named the NJCAA Division III National Player of the Year and a First Team All-American. He holds the Harvester Bees' season rebounding average record at 11.1 boards per game. He is tied for seventh in program history for most points in a game (43).
Ray has worked as a watch officer for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. since 2012. He's also held a role as a counterintelligence officer for the United States Department of the Army since 2011.
Bob Flickner
Bob Flickner is the all-time wins leader in Eastfield men's basketball coaching history.
Flickner compiled a 421-287 overall record with the Harvester Bees from 1975-98. He is the only coach in program history to win over 400 games. Eastfield had a .594 winning percentage in his 23-year tenure. His team won the NJCAA Division III National Championship in 1996-97, going 25-7. The Harvesters also won the Metro Athletic Conference title that season.
Flickner currently works as a physical education professor at Dallas College.
