Harvesters Alum Stone Signs with Diamondbacks
Former Dallas College Eastfield baseball player Tyler Stone signed a free agent contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Stone, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound right handed pitcher, played for Dallas College Eastfield in 2018 and 2019, earning National Junior College Athletic Association Division III First Team All-Region V honors.
"This has been my dream since I started playing," Stone said. "It's exciting to get going. It's an opportunity to go out and prove myself in the pro ranks. You wait your whole life for something like this to happen, and it's pretty crazy that it's starting now."
Following his two seasons with the Harvesters, Stone went on to play at the University of Texas Permian Basin and McNeese State University. Stone went 2-0 with a save, 3.77 earned run average and 63 strikeouts in 31 innings this past season with the Cowboys.
A native of Rockwall, Texas, Stone is waiting to hear where the Diamondbacks will assign him, with details presumably coming by the end of the week.
In 2018, Stone went 4-5 with 67 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings with Eastfield. He was 5-4 with 112 strikeouts in 80 1/3 innings as sophomore with the Harvesters.
"Obviously, he was kind of an anchor of our staff back then," Eastfield coach Michael Martin said. "He was one of the guys we turned to. He really grew as a pitcher at our place, and was able to get better and progress. He was probably the leader of our pitching staff those two years. Great kid, great character.
"It's always exciting when our players go on and have success, whether it's on to NCAA Division II or Division I, or they get an opportunity to live out their dreams of playing professional baseball. It'll draw some good recognition to our program."
Stone relishes the opportunity to have played for Eastfield and become one of the few in program history to develop into a professional ball player.
"I was able to do that for the college," he said. "It just shows that if you go there, going to affiliate ball is possible. I can't thank Coach Martin enough and Coach (Gage) Green for my time while I was there. It was an awesome experience to be able to go there, and be able to do this. We did things the right way. By me getting this opportunity, it kind of helps Coach Martin out a lot, and with recruiting.
"It's an awesome thing to be able to do. I can't thank my family enough, all the coaches, but I'd have to say, most of all, my parents. Still pinching myself that I'm out here doing this."
