Harvester Bees Sweep DAC Baseball Players of Week
Dallas College Eastfield's Angel Rodriguez and Jalen Johnston have been selected as the Dallas Athletic Conference baseball Players of the Week. Rodriguez was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Johnston was chosen as the Pitcher of the Week.
A sophomore first baseman from Tyler, Texas, Rodriguez batted .526 with three home runs, three doubles, 10 RBI, six walks and a stolen base as Eastfield went 7-0 to open the season. In a doubleheader sweep of National Junior College Athletic Association Division III No. 10-ranked North Arkansas, he went 6-for-6 with three home runs, two doubles, eight RBI, four runs scored and a walk. Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double and seven RBI in the second game of the twin bill – a 12-2 win for the No. 1-ranked Harvester Bees. He was 2-for-3 in a 10-0 win over Dallas Fort Worth Post Grad.
A sophomore right-handed pitcher from San Angelo, Texas, Johnston pitched six scoreless innings, while striking out 13 batters in two appearances. In a 10-0 win over DFW Post Grad, he went five innings, allowing one hit, no runs, one walk, and fanned 10 to pick up his first win of the season. Johnston worked a shutout inning of relief in a 6-0 road win over LeTourneau University's Junior Varsity, allowing no hits and a walk, while striking out three.
Eastfield will play Wharton County Junior College and Texas Post Grad in Bryan, Texas Wednesday. The first game begins at 11:45 a.m. The top-ranked Harvester Bees meet Blinn College on the road 2 p.m. Thursday. Eastfield returns home Saturday for a doubleheader against Texas Reds Post Grad at noon.
