Rodriguez, Fowler Named DAC Players of the Week

Dallas College Eastfield's Angel Rodriguez and Braden Fowler have been chosen as the Dallas Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week. Rodriguez was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Fowler earned the Pitcher of the Week.

This is the third time this year Rodriguez has collected the DAC weekly award.

A sophomore first baseman from Tyler, Texas, Rodriguez hit .529 (9-for-17) with four home runs, a triple, 15 runs batted in, 11 runs scored and five walks as the No. 1-ranked Harvester Bees went 5-0 overall, 3-0 in DAC play. Rodriguez had two hits in four of the five games, and homered twice, and had six RBI in the 22-0 series finale victory over Dallas College Brookhaven Saturday. He also homered and drove in five runs in a 20-1 win at Dallas Christian College. Rodriguez homered in the 7-5 series-opening win over Brookhaven. He was 2-for-4 in the 10-9 Game 2 win over the Bears.

Rodriguez leads the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III in RBI (55), is tied for the lead in home runs (12), and leads the DAC with a .485 batting average.

Fowler, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from College Station, Texas, went 1-0 in two appearances. He picked up a win in relief, allowing no runs, two hits and no walks, while striking out five in two innings at Dallas Christian. Fowler tossed an inning of scoreless relief without allowing a baserunner in the Game 3 win over Brookhaven.

Fowler is 1-1 this with 10 strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched this season.

The top-ranked Harvester Bees (24-7) play at Northeast Texas Community College 1 p.m. Monday, and begin a three-game league series at Dallas College North Lake noon Wednesday.
