Eastfield Wins Series, Takes 3-Game Lead in DAC

MESQUITE, Texas – Second-ranked Dallas College Eastfield beat No. 15 Dallas College Richland 2-1 Friday to secure the series ahead of Saturday's 12 p.m. finale.

Eastfield (25-7, 10-1 Dallas Athletic Conference) took a three-game lead over Richland (14-15-1, 7-4) and No. 4 Dallas College North Lake (17-14, 7-4) in the league standings. The Harvester Bees beat Richland 7-5 in Game 1 of the series.

Bees starter Benjamin Sheppard went the distance in Game 2, spinning a five-hitter with nine strikeouts, while giving up one run and no walks in his best performance of the season. Sheppard (4-0) was a National Junior College Athletic Association Division III First Team All-American last year.

Erik Aguirre went 1 for 3 with a walk, and scored both of Eastfield's runs. The gamewinning run in the seventh inning broke a 1-1 tie. He scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first.

The Thunderducks tied the game in the fifth.

Eastfield collected six hits – each coming off the bat of a different spot in the lineup. Luke Sasser doubled. Jayden Boyd, Jacob Sivak, Sergio Gastelum and Billy Spratt each had a hit, along with Aguirre. Sivak, Aguirre and Gastelum each also had a stolen base.

Eastfield's 25 wins are the most in the country.

Saturday's 12 p.m. series finale at Eastfield is scheduled to be broadcast on the DAC Sports Network.
