Bees Collect 5th DAC Series of Season

MESQUITE, Texas – Dallas College Eastfield's baseball team secured its fifth consecutive Dallas Athletic Conference series with a 7-4 win over Dallas College Brookhaven Thursday.

The second-ranked Harvester Bees won Wednesday's first game in the three-game set 26-13. The 26 runs are the most by Eastfield since Feb. 22, 2020 when the Bees beat Dallas College Cedar Valley 27-11. It also marks the second time this year Eastfield put up over 20 runs in a game, having outlasted Cedar Valley in a 22-20 slugfest to complete the first DAC series of the season to end February.

In Thursday's series clincher, the Harvester Bees (27-8, 12-2 DAC) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. They added a run in the seventh to give starter Benjamin Sheppard all the support he needed. Sheppard (5-0) allowed one hit and two walks, and struck out six in seven spotless innings. It was his first scoreless outing of the season.

Turner Corey closed the door for his team-leading third save. He struck out two of the three batters he faced in a perfect relief appearance. Eastfield's staff limited Brookhaven (14-20, 7-7) to four hits.

Sebastian Palma collected three hits, including his nation-leading 15th home run of the year, and Luke Sasser homered, doubled and drove in two for the Harvesters. Palma drove in three runs to bump his nation-leading total to 58. Jayden Boyd and Jacob Sivak both went 2 for 4.

Brookhaven's Bradley Boedeker was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBI and a pair of walks. Brett Petillo was 1 for 3 with two RBI and a walk. Nash Nichols had the Bears' other hit.

Friday's scheduled 12 p.m. first pitch will complete the first round of conference play. Eastfield plays at Hill College 1 p.m. Monday before beginning the second round of the DAC schedule in Wednesday's noon home game against Cedar Valley.
