No. 1 Bees' Bats Boom to Another Series Win
DALLAS – Dallas College Eastfield pounded 19 hits in a 16-4 victory in eight innings at Dallas College Mountain View Thursday to wrap up another Dallas Athletic Conference series.
Eastfield won Game 1 in the three-game set 24-14 in seven innings a day earlier.
The National Junior College Athletic Association Division III No. 1-ranked Harvester Bees (33-10, 17-3 DAC) maintained their five-game lead in the conference and extended their winning streak to six straight.
Harvester Bees right fielder Erik Aguirre collected four hits, including a double and a home run, and drove in six runs. In the two games so far in the series, he's mashed seven hits with 14 RBI in 10 at-bats. His eight RBI in Game 1 was a career best.
Shortstop Sergio Gastelum was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBI. Catcher Billy Spratt went 3 for 4 with a double, walk, stolen base and two RBI. Left fielder Luke Sasser, designated hitter Keydren Majors, first baseman Jayden Boyd and center fielder Jacob Sivak each had two hits. Sivak drove in two runs, and Majors and Boyd had one RBI apiece.
Bees starter Benjamin Sheppard improved to 7-0, allowing three runs on four hits and five walks, while striking out three in six innings.
The Harvesters scored seven runs in the third inning, and led 9-3 after four. They tacked on three more in the sixth before putting it away with a four-spot in the eighth. Reliever Caleb Deane held Mountain View to a run on two hits, no walks and two strikeouts over the final two innings to lock it down.
Eastfield, which closes the series with Friday's 12 p.m. finale at Mountain View, has racked up 40 runs and 40 hits in the two games.
The Harvester Bees will play a nonconference game at Navarro College Monday before beginning a three-game series at DAC second place occupant No. 6 Dallas College North Lake. Games 2 and 3 of the North Lake series at Eastfield Friday and Saturday will celebrate Harvester Bees alumni and national championship teams from 2006 and 2011.
