Santos, Gibson Sweep DAC Players of Week
IRVING, Texas – Dallas College Eastfield's Mia Santos and Patience Gibson swept the Dallas Athletic Conference Volleyball Players of the Week.
Santos was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while Gibson repeated as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Santos, a sophomore hitter from Forney, Texas, hit .345 with 49 kills and 27 digs, while serving six aces as the No. 1-ranked Harvester Bees went 4-0 in the Dallas College Richland Tournament. She had 18 kills in a sweep of National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Independence Community College. Santos had 13 kills, and hit .346, while adding two aces in a sweep of NJCAA Division I Temple College. She hit over .300 in three of the four Harvester Bees' sweeps, including a season-best .533 attack percentage in the 3-0 win over NJCAA Division I Southwestern Christian College.
Santos eclipsed 100 kills for the season, doubling her total from a year ago to lead the country at 107, and is hitting .225 for the 7-1 Harvester Bees.
Gibson, a freshman libero from Royse City, averaged 11 digs per match as the Bees swept all four opponents. She ripped off 17 aces, not giving the opposing teams a chance to play offense on 14 serves in the first two sweeps. Gibson had a season-high eight aces in the tournament-opening sweep of Southwestern Christian. She added six more in the sweep of Independence. She averaged four digs per set, coming up with 16 in the sweep of NJCAA Division II Coffeyville Community College.
Gibson went over 100 digs for the season, and also leads the country at 131.
Eastfield will compete in the College of DuPage Invitational Friday and Saturday in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
