No. 3 Harvesters Shut Out North Lake
IRVING, Texas – Dallas College Eastfield's baseball team shut out host Dallas College North Lake 11-0 Saturday to take a three-game series.
Ranked third in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll, the Harvester Bees (40-8, 20-4 Dallas Athletic Conference) bounced back from Friday's 8-7 loss in Game 2. The Harvesters have a three-game lead in the DAC with two series remaining.
Eastfield joined No. 1 Rowan College South Jersey-Gloucester as NJCAA Division III teams with 40 wins this year. No. 2 SUNY Niagra is 39-0 entering Sunday's games.
Three Harvester Bees combined on the shutout. Starter Ryan Dyer (6-0) went six innings, allowing four hits and two walks, and struck out a career-high eight. Teague Rehwald pitched one inning, yielding a hit and no walks. Cooper Sexton closed the game with an inning of work, surrendering a walk, while fanning two batters.
The Bees pounded 14 hits, including three apiece by Luke Sasser and Michael Caputo. Caputo also drove in three runs. Sebastian Palma was 2 for 4 with two RBI and a stolen base. Drew Saenz went 2 for 4, drove in a run and had a stolen base. Diego Washington belted his first home run of the season. Jorge Herrera went 1 for 4 with two RBI and a stolen base. Angel Gutierrez and Garret Hendricks each doubled. Gutierrez added a stolen base.
It was Eastfield's third shutout of the season, and the first since blanking Trinidad State College 7-0 in the second game of a doubleheader March 15.
The Harvester Bees begin a three-game series at No. 6 Dallas College Richland noon Thursday. The final two games of the series are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Eastfield. Richland (28-20, 17-7) sits in second place in the league, three games behind the Bees.
