Dallas College North Lake
MESQUITE, Texas – Dallas College Eastfield's baseball team rallied for a 9-8 win over Dallas College North Lake in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament Thursday.
The fourth-ranked Harvester Bees (44-12) advanced to Friday's 10 a.m. semifinals to meet eighth-ranked Dallas College Richland (33-22) at Eastfield. North Lake (23-35) will play No. 13 Dallas College Brookhaven (33-25) at 1 p.m. in an elimination game.
North Lake scored five runs in the seventh inning to take an 8-3 lead on the Harvester Bees. Parker Burt cranked a two-run home run to left-center to break a 3-3 tie. After Carter Andreozzi had a pinch-hit single and Shaun Williams beat out an infield single, Andreozzi scored on a wild pitch. Then Harrison Golden ripped a two-run single to left-center to give the Blazers the five-run cushion.
The Harvesters pulled within 8-5 when Erik Aguirre belted a run-scoring double to center in the eighth.
After Eastfield closer Preston Peyton retired the last three hitters in the North Lake lineup, the Bees sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning to score the game's final four runs. Following a leadoff single by Garret Hendricks, the Bees capitalized on Jorge Herrera's sacrifice fly, two walks, two hit batsmen – the last with the bases loaded to tie the game at 8-8 – and the second of two errors to pull it out.
Peyton (1-0) pitched one inning of scoreless relief, striking out one, in the win. Starter Tyler Do went 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, two hits and six walks, and had eight strikeouts.
Hendricks went 3 for 3 with an RBI. Aguirre went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Sebastian Palma doubled, and had three walks.
Golden went 4 for 5 with a double and two RBI for North Lake. Michael Holden was 2 for 3 with two walks. Burt was 2 for 3 with the homer, three RBI and two walks.
Eastfield will meet Richland in the semifinals for the fourth straight year. Richland won last year's battle. The Bees won the previous two meetings.
